I am about to graduate from college. A journey that has taken 39 years, off and on. Whew!
This last semester, I have been working as a social media strategist for a privately owned business. My brain is full of all the new apps, software, tips, rules, webinars, mass emails, all in addition to the structure of public relations and advertising I learned in school.
But besides all that, I have to say I am glad to be where I am today. At my age, life takes on a new feel. Parents are growing old, getting ill or passing away. Children are finding their own ways through the world of adulthood. Most my age, whether they admit it or not, are experiencing new aches and pains that demand a surprising amount of attention. I have something else. I have a new passion, an excitement for the future and a desire to be successful in a small way.
For the moment, creating a digital portfolio is my passion, and I want it to be good! Something that even the new generation of potential employers and co-workers will stop and say, "whoa, this is pretty good". I need enough to prove that I am current and I can be a part of the digital age while bringing a world of inter-personal communications to the table.
I will be exploring the "30 second intro" for the quicky interview the "kids" are so fired up about. Short attention spans, make your case quick and move along. And when they see an old person sitting across from them, that attention span tightens up to about 15 seconds because they are anticipating War and Peace, and are already bored. I will surprise them. They will think to themselves, "whoa, that was pretty good".
Coming up next, I will begin to take you through the journey of creating videos for marketing, blogs for businesses, social media, podcasts that actually hold attention while educating, and more graphic design for Facebook and YouTube channel covers. Exciting stuff!
In the meantime, I will share photography. Not a pro, just enjoy capturing the world as I pass through it. Things that make me stop and say, "whoa, that is pretty good"!!
